TITLE: Do you think?
AUTHOR: Angie
FANDOM: Wicked RPS
PAIRING: Idina/Kristin, Idina/Taye
SUMMARY: Idina and Taye lie in bed and discuss 'Wicked'
RATING: PG-13
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way implying that this is a true representation of the 'real-people' in the story. I mean no disrespect.
WORD COUNT: 300
AUTHOR'S NOTES: A follow up to 'What if?'. It is also told in three 100 word drabbles. There will probably be one more part to this.
“Do you think that Fiyero really loves Elphaba?”
Taye rolled over to face his wife, rubbing his eyes. She was staring up at the ceiling, and had obviously not been asleep.
“Baby, it’s the middle of the night…I don’t know.”
“I mean, he’d spent an afternoon with her, once. And they were so different.”
He reached over and laced his fingers through hers, lifting their joined hands so that the moonlight illuminated them.
“Different can be good.”
She turned her head to look at him, one side of her mouth turning up.
“Yeah, it can be.”
“I love you.”
“I…”
*****
“So…does Elphaba really love him?”
He didn’t look at her as he asked the question. Too afraid to see her face. She didn’t reply immediately, but he heard her breathing change.
“She loves…the idea of him. The handsome, popular boy taking an interest in her. She almost can’t believe it’s true sometimes, that he really loves her…this plain, strange looking girl…when he could have anybody.”
He felt his throat tighten and willed away the tears that threatened to come. A muffled sob escaped her throat and he closed his eyes, his teeth clenched.
“But he wants her. He loves her.”
*****
“I…I think Elphaba loves…someone else.”
Don’t say it, don’t tell me, go to sleep and we’ll pretend this never happened. But he knew that neither of them could forget and he forced the next question past the lump in his throat.
“Who do you think she loves?”
He knew the answer before it came. He wished his head was full of straw, so he didn’t have to understand.
“She…she loves Glinda.”
She held her breath, she couldn’t believe she’d said it. He lay quietly for a while.
“Then she should fuck off to Glinda and leave Fiyero the hell alone.”

Date: 2006-07-16 12:10 am (UTC)I know you said that you didn't particularly like it but I am going to have to go against that cause I love it. As mentioned in the last one, I love the parallels and if anything they are even more obvious this time. I like the exploration of Elphaba's feelings (cause as we've discussed they hardly knew one another - at least in the musicalverse the novelverse is a different matter - have you finished it yet?). I love Taye in this and I feel so sorry for him, even with his anger at the end - he is so trying to do and say the right thing - “But he wants her. He loves her.” - but he knows that there is nothing that he can do - He wished his head was full of straw, so he didn’t have to understand.
You've made me all teary which means that the Bree/Lynette fic is probably going to get really ansty.

Date: 2006-07-16 06:43 pm (UTC)Novelverse thoughts are elsewhere.
I love Taye in this - I watched Rent yesterday which is probably why I wrote this. I forgot how truly gorgeous that man is. Seriously, gorgeous. Even if he was kind of a bastard in it.
the Bree/Lynette fic is probably going to get really ansty. - Are you telling me that otherwise it would have been joyful and happy? (Haven't read it yet - am kind of dangling it as a reward for if I get through some work stuff I brought home...although I seem to be procrastinating quite a bit at the moment by responding to comments.)

Seriously, gorgeous. Even if he was kind of a bastard in it. Gorgeous bastards are frequently my favourite kind.

Yep completely happy and full of hugs and puppies until I read your fic and it made me cry. I am smiley and flattered at the thought of my fic being a reward - MAS babe.

Date: 2006-07-18 08:18 pm (UTC)Comes out on Wednesday - What a strange day for anything to come out...Mondays and Fridays I can understand...but Wednesday....?
Gorgeous bastards are frequently my favourite kind. - I have been considering my 'he was kind of a bastard' comment. And I have come to the conclusion that his character is the one that I would be the most like. So maybe I don't disagree with him as much as I initially thought. It was a knee-jerk reaction to the whole vibe of the movie. But when I thought about it, I'm definitely a Benny.
Yep completely happy and full of hugs and puppies until I read your fic and it made me cry. - Chhhhheeeaaaah right. I read it (am about to comment). I'd love to see you work hugs and puppies into an episode where Bree's son has had gay sex in her bed with her boyfriend. That would be a hell of a fic!!!
I am smiley and flattered at the thought of my fic being a reward - MAS babe. - Back atcha!

Date: 2006-07-18 09:40 pm (UTC)I am not a despot. Yet. Keep working on it babe - if you do become a militant dictator can I have a place in you cabinet??????
but Wednesday....? All major DVD releases come out on Wednesday here - which is nice cause it's pay day.
But when I thought about it, I'm definitely a Benny. I can't comment - will have to let you know once I've seen it.

All major DVD releases come out on Wednesday here - How positively baffling.
I can't comment - will have to let you know once I've seen it. - OK, let me know when you've seen it. I have comments too. And some of them even go deeper than: 'Taye *drool*'. And I got me a Rent icon, look!

How positively baffling. It just seems normal to me - what day is your cinema release day?
OK, let me know when you've seen it. Seen it - will try to make post on it if can stay awake.
And I got me a Rent icon, look! As did I, I am all about The Tango Maureen.....

Date: 2006-07-20 09:43 pm (UTC)It just seems normal to me - what day is your cinema release day? - Cinema releases come out on a Friday. DVD releases (and CD releases) come out on a Monday. That is sensible. Friday so that people can go out at the weekend and Monday so that they can sell as much as possible to get as high up the charts as they can. Wednesday is just...strange.
Seen it - will try to make post on it if can stay awake. - Did you run out of pronouns? And I'm taking it that you fell asleep? I might try and make a short post on it in a minute.
I am all about The Tango Maureen..... - It's a dark dizzy merry-go-round.

Date: 2006-07-20 11:08 pm (UTC)Cinema releases come out on a Friday. Do you want me to blow your mind and tell you that cinema releases come out on a Thursday here????? I should also tell you that we don't care about the charts quite as much as you guys - Christmas No 1 is no different to any other week.
Did you run out of pronouns? Pronouns are overrated and not always necessary - they are much like knifes (I like to have as many knifeless meals as possible - it's a hangover from my college days when we used to have competitions about this - I lead such a full, full life).
Got a fire in your brain and you're thinking of drinking gasoline...........

Date: 2006-07-22 08:24 am (UTC)cinema releases come out on a Thursday here????? - Yes, my mind is blown. Mostly because I was thinking 'Oh well, but your Thursday is our Friday so it's kinda the same day', when in reality, your Thursday is our Wednesday so it's so completely not the same thing at all. I'm picking bits of my brain off the carpet as we speak.
(I like to have as many knifeless meals as possible - Oh God, you savage! I am all about proper cutlery. I hate being in a restaurant and seeing people holding their cutlery wrong. Americans are especially bad for this.
Did she moon over other boys? More than moon.

I'm picking bits of my brain off the carpet as we speak. I hope you are cleaning up after yourself but I am also picturing the liquid nitrogen head exploding death in The X-Files where they had a chalk outline around the body and all the little Xs for the shattered bits of head (I think you should draw little Xs everywhere).
Oh God, you savage! I am all about proper cutlery. I hate being in a restaurant and seeing people holding their cutlery wrong. Don't worry babe - I can bring the culture when I have to.
Did you swoon when she walked through the door?
Every time - so be cautious

Has she ever pouted her lips and called you 'Pookie'?
Never.

Date: 2006-07-22 01:32 pm (UTC)I know you're out there on the edge of civilisation but I'd like to think you have a little refinement ;) Well FFM was telling me on the phone tonight (while we were watching Iron Chef and I was somewhat ignoring him cause I was typing comments to you) that given my home town, we should be surprised that I can recognise utensils at all.
And she can be obscene my Maureen

Date: 2006-07-22 01:41 pm (UTC)we should be surprised that I can recognise utensils at all. - Well, I am very impressed that you use a knife then, even occasionally.
Did you ever doubt a kiss or two?
This is...spooky.

Date: 2006-07-22 02:13 pm (UTC)'Bad Blood' continues to be my favourite ep though. Snarky!Scully just can't be beat And it wasn't even real cream cheese, it was light cream cheese - I heart cranky, snarky Scully.
Well, I am very impressed that you use a knife then, even occasionally. I can even use chopsticks (huge achievement for someone from my town) although I don't actually hold them right.
Cause her cold eyes can burn yet you yearn and you churn and rebound

I can even use chopsticks - I regard chopsticks as a step backwards and so refuse to use them unless absolutely necessary.
'Cause in the end you can't leave her
