From the first time I stepped aboard this ship there has been speculation as to why I was here. Mal came straight out and asked me what I was running from. I admit that it must seem strange for me to choose a ship like Serenity. It would be far more respectable for me to be on a core planet somewhere. Far easier too, with fewer…complications, shall we say?

I have my reasons for being here. Yes, they are related to my past and yes I am ashamed of parts of it.

I haven’t spoken of my past to any of my shipmates. Not Mal, not Kaylee…I haven’t confessed my sins to the Shepherd.

So I’m hardly going to tell you what I am most ashamed of, am I?

Man I wish I knew what Inara's background really was - they so need to make a second movie full of clunky trunk moments and long bows and the right people removing their tops in engine rooms.
