NOTES: So, yeah, so much for not posting it...
The first time he didn’t say it, she punched him.
He walked in to the squad room, blood on his shirt, his eyes heavy and red rimmed. Her heart beat loud in her ears, in time with his footsteps. She willed it to beat loud enough to drown out the words she dreaded hearing.
“Alex…I didn’t want to tell you on the phone…she’s…she’s hurt.”
The wind went out of her, leaving her feeling light-headed. Unsure she’d heard properly.
“She’s…alive?”
“God, yes, sorry.”
And she punched him, hard, on the face. He reeled back, holding his jaw, staring at her in surprise.
“You tell me that first, Elliot. OK? The first thing you say to me is ‘she’s not dead’. Then you can fill me in. But you tell me that first. Got it?”
She was shaking with anger, or relief. He nodded.
*****
Over the years, he said it to her many times. He’d called her from a bar once, it was the first thing he’d said. The second was ‘but I might just kill her if you don’t come down and take her home’.
It became almost a joke.
*****
The second time he didn’t say it, her heart shattered in her chest.
She opened the door to her apartment. He was standing there. He didn’t say it.
“I’m so sorry, Alex.”
It was all he could manage. She held him close as he cried. Her tears wouldn’t come.
She was sure once they did, they would never stop.

Date: 2006-04-07 11:33 pm (UTC)So whenever I'm there, me and my boss will go in and walk up and down, talking in hushed voices pretending like we're lawyers. I could not love you more!!!!!!!!
(this in no way means that I no longer want to be Inara...just that I occasionally pretend to be Alex...it's much easier to dress like Alex) Glad that you clarified that, I was worried.
BTW, have you read this? Well I have now - be still my heart!!!!!!!
it appears that canon never really rules out the possibility that they are in a relationship. I was aware that they are never very clear on any L&O shows and that Elisabeth's character was gay but that this not revealed until her last seconds on screen, so I never had any problem imagining that Alex and Olivia were so very much together but I love just how easy it is to apparently assume that it's canon - love the accessory analysis!!!
Just think of the fun you could have with that :) You so know that I am going to - my boss was asking me yesterday is I was avoiding exams - and yes I am but I have much more important things to focus on that he would never understand.

Glad that you clarified that, I was worried. - Yes, I felt it was best to clarify. I know how you think about stuff and I knew this would concern you.
Elisabeth's character was gay but that this not revealed until her last seconds on screen - I saw an ep or two when Elisabeth was in it and I was most taken aback to find out that she was a lawyer and not a cop! I had just assumed, because she was a cop on Angel, that she would be a cop on L&O. It threw me a bit, I can tell you. And wasn't there all sorts of confusion after her 'Is this because I'm a lesbian' thing. Like, why did they bring it up at all?
love the accessory analysis!!! - I know!!! Am now very irate that only seasons 1 and 2 (and 5 in the US) are available to buy. What's up with that? I need seasons 3 and 4, damn it!!!
he would never understand - I suppose subtext spotting isn't really a valid excuse to use at work. More's the pity :)
*points at icon* Look, I have an Alex icon!!! And she's wearing glasses! Incidentally, there's an oh-so-cute clip around somewhere, Behind the Scenes with E! or something, where Mariska puts on the 'Alex Glasses'. Very cute!

'Is this because I'm a lesbian' thing. Like, why did they bring it up at all? Pointless tokenism designed to make us go back and look at the eps for subtext?????
I was most taken aback to find out that she was a lawyer I was mainly thrown by the idea of a blonde DA.
I need seasons 3 and 4, damn it!!! As do I but I should probably at least take season one and two out of their plastic before I get all worked up about that.
