I told you I would eventually comment on other stuff I read!
Everything about this is wonderful, but I'll try to elaborate to make my comment more useful than just "hey, this is awesome and you are awesome."
So the thing is, what really makes Cara AMAZING as a character is that when she admits to feeling something it's almost impossible for the reader not to feel something too. Because CARA admitting to FEELINGS is automatically monumental. So the little ways in which she feels protective for the emo!Kahlan are automatically impossibly adorable because awwww. (And she's RIGHT. It's something about her hair. And also how her mouth was hanging open almost the ENTIRE TIME instead of the alternate :| )
“I could command her to be with you, if you’d like that,” she suggested.
“If that would please my mistress, I would do it gladly,” Kahlan said, smiling widely at Cara.
“What? No!” Cara said, stepping away from the nicer of the two Kahlans, though it made no difference because Kahlan merely stepped with her, still clinging to her arm. “That’s...I do not want that.”
“No? You heard her tell Richard that she’d love you if he wanted her to…she wasn’t under confession then,” the Mother Confessor continued. “I happen to know for a fact that your Kahlan, the one that you miss so much…” Her voice was mocking. “…has feelings for you.”
“Kahlan has feelings for everyone,” Cara shot back, unwilling to let herself believe what she was hearing.
“Not like the ones she has for you…” the Mother Confessor continued, her eyes flicking to the other Kahlan. “Tell her.”
Cara turned to find the other one nodding at her. “It’s true,” she confirmed, squeezing Cara’s arm a little tighter. “She has all kinds of feelings about you…some of them she doesn’t want to admit, even to herself, but she has them.” Kahlan leaned closer, whispering near Cara’s ear. “I can feel them.”
The first time I read this, I hadn't seen enough of the show to REALLY know the characters, but this part still stood out to me. I sympathized with Cara and the honestly the idea of the two parts of Kahlan almost conspiring against the whole her to reveal secrets she wouldn't otherwise is just brilliant.
But the funny thing is today re-reading it the moment that honestly got to me most was "Kahlan was feelings for everyone" because -- yes. THAT. And it's so perfectly Cara that I laughed.
I'm not sure this ended up as useful after all, but at least there are MANY WORDS.
How have I still not made a Seeker icon? I'm the laziest fan ever!
