Every night I hand her a mirror and tell her she’s beautiful. Then I watch as she looks at herself, smiling, like she really believes it. But it only lasts a second.
I wish I could hand her a mirror that showed her through my eyes. Then she would see that she’s the most beautiful woman on God’s green earth. She wouldn’t hate her nose, or think that her mouth is weird, or that her arms are fat. She’d know that she’s perfect.
But that mirror doesn’t exist, so I’ll keep on telling her. Until the night she believes me.
