“The lift’s stuck.”

“Yes, Scribbs, I had deduced that from the lack of movement and the fact that the doors haven’t opened. I am, in fact, a detective.”

“No need to get snippy, I was just saying.”

“Well, don’t just say. Just fix it.”

“Fix it? Bloody hell, Ash, do you think I carry a set of tools round in my bra? Or that I’d have a clue how to fix it even if I did.”

“I meant, pick up the phone and alert someone to our predicament.”

“Are...are you okay, Ash? You look a little flushed.”

“Perfectly fine, thank you.”

“And you’re breathing heavily...are you...claustrophobic?”

“What? No! Of course not. I just don’t like being in confined spaces that are dangling from a cable and have the potential to plunge down a shaft and crash into the mechanism at the bottom.”

“Is that not kind of the same thi-“

“Scribbs! Just pick up the bloody phone!”

“Fine! I was just going to offer to take your mind off it with a little snog, that’s all.”

“...No. There’s bound to be a security camera in here somewhere.”

“Otherwise you would have taken me up on it?”

“You’ll never know, will you? Now pick up that bloody phone before I use it to bludgeon you to death and cite reduced mental capacity due to oxygen deprivation as my defence in court.”

“Yes ma’am.”

Lindsay’s phone ringing after midnight is not an uncommon occurrence. She groans, leans over and picks it up, not bothering to check the caller ID.

“Boxer.”

“Hey, it’s me.”

Lindsay sits up immediately.

“Jill? Are you okay? What’s happened?”

“Don’t panic, nothing’s happened. I just...”

Lindsay lies back down against the pillows, putting a hand over her heart, feeling it return to a normal rate after her scare.

“You just...what?” she asks, a little irritably.

“The bed in Claire’s spare room is really uncomfortable,” Jill says, and Lindsay can hear the pout in her voice when she says it. She smirks.

“It is, huh?” she asks, playing along.

“Yeah, it is. It’s hard. And kinda lumpy,” Jill says, her voice becoming more doleful on each word.

“I know you like a soft bed,” Lindsay says.

“I do. And I have a big case tomorrow so I really do need a good night’s sleep...”

“If only you knew someone who had a non-lumpy, soft bed you could use.”

“Yeah...if only,” Jill says. “Hey! Your bed is soft, and not at all lumpy!”

“That’s true,” Lindsay agrees. “But I’m using my bed.”

“I suppose I could put up with that, for the sake of a comfortable night’s sleep,” Jill says.

Lindsay grins and shakes her head.

“I don’t recall ever getting a full night’s sleep with you in my bed,” she says, already knowing she’s going to agree.

“Well, they say it’s not the quantity of sleep you get, it’s the quality,” Jill muses.

“True...and I do tend to end up in a very deep sleep,” Lindsay says.

“You do, a deep, satisfied sleep.”

“So, what do you say? Up for sharing your bed for the night with a needy lawyer?”

“I guess I could do that,” Lindsay says, now fully awake.

“Thank God!” Jill says. “I’m sitting outside your house in my car.”

“I could probably have you arrested for stalking, you know,” Lindsay says, getting out of bed to go unlock the door.

“I will have no objections if you choose to use your handcuffs on me, Inspector.”

Lindsay shivers at the words.

“Maybe, if you’re lucky. But you’re gonna have to show me your briefs, counsellor.”

“Maybe I’m not wearing any...”

Rachel pushes open Quinn’s bedroom door quietly, in case either she or Abby are asleep. But she’s met with the sight of Quinn feeding the little one. Quinn looks up and smiles.

“Hey,” she whispers. “Come in.”

“I...I can come back, if you’d prefer,” Rachel says, keeping her eyes very firmly focussed on Quinn’s face.

Quinn rolls her eyes.

“It’s not like you’ve never seen them before, Rachel,” she says. “Anyway, we’re almost done. Then you can hold her.”

Rachel moves fully into the room and closes the door, approaching the bed, unable to help the soft smile that appears on her face at the sight of the tiny baby.

“Yes, I’ve seen them before. But they’ve never been quite so...full,” she says, somewhat tactfully, for Rachel. “And usually there isn’t someone attached to one of them.”

She sits down on the bed, kicking her shoes off and edging over to sit by Quinn, slipping an arm behind her back to allow her to get close enough to see Abby’s little face.

“Hey there little alien,” Rachel whispers. “How’re you doing today?”

Quinn scowls .

“You need to find a better nickname than that for her,” she warns. “Or else I might accidentally punch you in one of my more hormonally charged moments.”

Rachel tilts her head, appraising Abby.

“She is certainly less alien-like since she came out,” she decides.

“Try not alien-like at all,” Quinn corrects her, as Abby decides she’s had enough to eat and starts fussing. “Here, you want to burp her?”

Rachel’s eyes light up.

“Yes! I’ve been reading up on several techniques and I’ve been dying to try them out,” she enthuses, gently taking Abby from Quinn’s arms.

“I’d prefer it if you didn’t make my daughter sound like a science project,” she murmurs, but she’s smiling at the Rachelness of it all.

Rachel has Abby on her knee, gently holding her face and rubbing her back in tiny circles. She starts to sing, softly. Quinn rests her head on Rachel’s shoulder, content. Then Abby spits up on Rachel’s hand. Rachel turns to Quinn.

“Everyone’s a critic.”

lol that was fun. I think Kahlan needs to be spelled more often.

Oh, she would have taken her up in it in a heart beat, I'm sure.

Ah Cara and Kahlan are love - even if it's not real Kahlan but it's all good cause this Kahlan gets to have sexy times!

I adore the idea of Cara not paying enough attention and accidentally making a confession of love but then giving a definite commitment to sex ;)

She is, after all, sworn to serve Lord Rahl. She’s almost certain that kissing his true love does not count as servitude. I love this bit - I think it's the fact that Cara is 'almost certain' ;)

I think it's the fact that Cara is 'almost certain' ;) - Zedd probably has a Wizard's Rule about it. But Cara doesn't listen to him either.

I think that probably happened to Cara too. Though she'll deny it later.

This so wasn't what I had planned to write for the 'comfort' prompt. But it came on the back of the LotS and MiS drabbles above and therefore I wasn't in a serious mood when I got to it.

Yep, sorry. Didn't realise the drabbles were all in one post. Cara/Kahlan are another of my current OTP loves.

But it is the Kahlan who was willing to have a threesome with Richard and Cara. And that's canon. I am in no way saying that is a bad Kahlan!

Zedd probably has a Wizard's Rule about it. But Cara doesn't listen to him either. Who can blame her for not listening to Wizard Rules - she is not a Wizard and their magic can't harm her - and why would she listened to anyone who told her not to sleep with Kahlan

I miss Ash & Scribbs Me too. Most find time to write that fic. As usual my plans to write fic on nights have already fallen into a heap.

But it came on the back of the LotS and MiS drabbles above and therefore I wasn't in a serious mood when I got to it. A totally understandable influence!
