I just started watching the show (& reading fic & writing Jo/Blair) about three months ago. I'm only up to the end of season 5. So I'm writing (relatively) blind as well. If readers are holding it against me it doesn't show by the feedback I've received.
I highly recommend fol_fiction (and not just because I am a maintainer there and I'm trying to boost the numbers). It's not as widely read as, say, passion_perfect, but the members/watchers comment on fic in a way that's supportive but not mindlessly cheerleader-y, if you know what I mean. No one will hold your newbieness against you, I guarantee it.
If you're worried about getting canon details wrong, consider this: the show itself was notoriously bad with continuity. Examples: Blair says in season 1 that she has two more years left at Eastland, but she doesn't graduate until the end of season 4; Blair's father's name is given as Steve in one episode and David in another. So we fic writers can't be blamed for getting a few details wrong (plus, you can always ask the comm for info if you want to be accurate).
On the other hand, if it's characterization that worries you, judging from this story, you've got them down pretty well already. I say just go for it! I anxiously await your response to the latest challenge, should you choose to go there.
